On 14 March 2026, IILAT will be holding a one-day advocacy training for junior advocates, with 5 years experience or less. The training will take place at the International Criminal Court in The Hague and is designed for advocates working at international criminal tribunals or nationally with an interest in international criminal law.
The advocacy training will be delivered by: Judge Joanna Korner (ICC Judge), Judge Beti Hohler (ICC Judge), Judge Christopher Gosnell (KSC Judge), Sarah Bafahdel (ICC Counsel), Iain Edwards (ICC/KSC Counsel), Leonie von Braun (ICC Senior Trial Attorney), Kamran Choudhry (UK Judge).
Participants will practise the skills of witness examination, cross-examination and delivering a closing statement. The exercises will be using an in-house developed case of Prosecutor v. Henzou.
This training is an excellent opportunity to learn about the basics of advocacy in front of the ICC, discover the best techniques and practice your advocacy skills with the help of some of the most experienced and respected advocates in the field of international criminal law and interact with fellow legal professionals from different institutions and backgrounds.
Participation is limited to only 18 persons. IILAT will aim to ensure balanced gender and geographical representation as well as make sure that participants from different institutions have an opportunity to participate. The training is free of charge.
The programme of the training will run for a full day, starting in the morning of 14 March and ending in the afternoon. Participants must take part in the whole day of training. Upon completion, participants will receive the IILAT certificate of attendance.
